In 1937, Doris was sent to relatives in England on a children's transport and was able to attend a boarding school there with her cousin. This was not easy for the then 14-year-old in the beginning. A reunion with her family during the vacations was made difficult by the Gestapo, as she was ordered to leave Germany again within four days.
